Bearcats run for the state title comes up short in Weatherford. The game slated for Friday November 27th was postponed due to inclement weather. On the last day of November the Grandfield football team headed to Southwestern Oklahoma State University to take on the Shattuck Indians. After going three and out on offense the Bearcats punted the ball. On a 42 yard run the Indians drew first blood and put up a quick 8 points. This score would hold true until late in the fourth quarter. Both sides battled it out in the trenches. The Grandfield defense prevented the Indians from scoring on multiple red zone attempts for the better part of three quarters. The officiating missed several helmet to helmet calls against the Indians resulting in Jermaine “PaPa” White’s removal from the game due to concussion. With less than five minutes left in the game the Indians finalized the score by scoring the last touchdown of the game. The Bearcats special teams made the stop on the extra point attempt. Shattuck’s 14 points was more than enough to end the Bearcats drive for a state title. Grandfield ends its season with a record of 11-1 overall. “These men played their hearts out and walked away with their heads held high” said coach Dickey and he went on to add, “Through all the adversity we have had to overcome this season with key injuries and losses there is no doubt in my mind these players have had an extremely successful season.” Thank you “Bearcat Nation” for your continued support in Grandfield athletics.
