07/20/20 - Letter to Parents

July 20, 2020

 Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Covid-19 pandemic continues to present educational challenges for the upcoming school year.  As much as we had all hoped this would not be the case, Covid-19 will impact school operations for the foreseeable future.  This letter is to inform you of what safeguards Grandfield Schools is putting in place for the safety of our staff and students and to allow you to explore what options are available to you and your student this year.

 Safety and Health Procedures:

  • All students using any school transportation (bus, suburban, AG truck) must wear a mask. The district will provide a cloth mask for students.
  • Students and staff will be screened daily with a temperature check.Students or staff members with a temperature of 100 degrees or higher will be sent home.
  • Buses and classrooms will be sanitized regularly.
  • Lunch will be staggered to reduce the number of students in the cafeteria.
  • Social distancing will be used whenever possible.
  • Visitors to buildings will be restricted to official business only.
  • Food deliveries will not be allowed. This will be re-evaluated each 9 weeks.
  • Teachers will have masks, face shields, gloves, and sanitizer available.
  • Drinking fountains will be closed.
  • Sharing of items between students will not be allowed.

 Distance Learning Option Grades  7-12:

Grandfield School recognizes there may be families that decide students need to continue with distance learning, and the district has obtained on-line learning platforms for student use that align with the Oklahoma Academic Standards.  Students in grades 7-8 will use Study Island for on-level learning and the state purchased Exact Path that will allow for student remediation or advancement of skills beyond grade level. High School students will Use Odyssey-ware, a full curriculum for high school students and Exact Path for enrichment.

Grandfield students will have the opportunity to apply to determine if they are a good candidate to continue with distance learning at home. The health of the student will be a top consideration. Students who choose this option are still considered Grandfield students and receive all the benefits of being part of the district.  They may participate in extracurricular activities as long as they are on campus and in-class for that activity.

Students and parents interested in applying for the Grandfield virtual option should write the student‘s name on the list at registration.   An application form will be sent to the student’s school email along with more information on grading, attendance, acceptable progress, testing procedures, and communication with the teacher. Each application will be evaluated by administration to determine if a student is eligible for distance learning.  If selected, students will be notified and meet with the principal to review the program.  Students enrolled in Grandfield’s Virtual Learning option will be able to check out Chrome books for student use with a signed contract.

The situation surrounding Covid-19 continues to rapidly change in Oklahoma.  Our administration receives weekly updates from the Oklahoma State Department of Education and we will continue to monitor numbers in our community.  For now, this is the plan we have to move forward.

Grandfield Schools full plan for reopening is available on the district website at grandfield.k12.ok.us.
